Brennan White - Week 1 HW

Favorite Story in a Game: Witcher 3
This story follows a Witcher (a monster hunter for hire) named Geralt on a mission to search for his adopted daughter Ciri who has become the target of the wild hunt. The wild hunt is a group from the elven world also known as Aen Elle which thanks to the conjunction of spheres and magic they are capable of navigating from their world to others such as the one geralt lives in. The main reason the wild hunt is after Ciri is for her abilities to travel between worlds at a whim, and that is thanks to the elder blood passed down in her family. The main story of The Witcher 3 is following Geralt on his quest to track down Ciri who is also a playable character as she is being chased by the wild hunt across worlds and around the countries in their world. You do this by calling in all the favors you have from characters met in previous games and from stories supported in the written fiction which this entire series is based on. Even though their is a main storyline which you follow that takes you across the world you will find many side stories and missions which even on their own last several hours of playtime with deep narratives that tie into the main story or even into other side stories you might be following at the same time. If you want to sink your teeth into a rich fantasy narrative, and spend about 80 hours or more diving deep into the world I cannot recommend The Witcher 3 enough it is certainly a peak in storytelling in games.
This story was one of the first ones that made me particularly feel for each of the characters and really want to dig into the backstory for each of them which has significant depth since a lot of it is based on the novels. I especially enjoyed the dynamic that Geralt and Ciri have as father and adoptive daughter. They have a great relationship that the player even can have some influence over and can actually significantly change how the ending goes depending on how you spend your time with her.
